On Ecclesiology (II)

“The Church Which Presides In Love” by Nicholas Afanassieff  [source] I . Orthodox polemics against the primacy of Rome now depend, broadly speaking, on Roman Catholic theology. [1] This is not surprising, since the actual aim of Orthodox theology is to refute arguments put forth in favor of Roman primacy. Now the Catholic doctrine of […]

Eucharistic Ecclesiology

by Bijesh Philipm (St. Thomas Orthodox Seminary Nagpur) Too much compartmentalization like theology, spirituality, liturgy etc and further divisions of theology into Christology, ecclesiology, pnuematology etc were alien to the early Christian fathers and thus foreign to the Orthodox Ethos. Eclectic : deriving ideas from a broad and diverse range of Christian sources and Traditions.

Orthodoxy : correct, right or true things, from ὀρθός ‎(orthós, “correct”) + δόξα ‎(dóxa, “way, opinion”).

“No doctrine concerning the divine and saving mysteries of the faith, however trivial, may be taught without the backing of the holy Scriptures. We must not let ourselves be drawn aside by mere persuasion and cleverness of speech. Do not even give absolute belief to me, the one who tells you these things, unless you receive proof from the divine Scriptures of what I teach. For the faith that brings us salvation acquires its force, not from fallible reasonings, but from what can be proved out of the holy Scriptures.” Cyril of Jerusalem (ca. 313-386)
